Surun Silta – Grief Support and Healing
Background
Grief is universal but experienced differently across cultures. Immigrant families may suffer losses both before and after migration — the death of loved ones, displacement, or separation. However, grief support in Finland often lacks cultural adaptability and is rarely extended to immigrant communities in their own language or comfort zone.
Project Description
Surun Silta (“Bridge of Grief”) creates a compassionate, safe space for people processing grief or trauma. The program offers group and individual sessions using culturally sensitive methods and nature-based healing practices.
❤️ Why It’s Important
Unprocessed grief can result in long-term mental health issues. Children often suffer silently, while parents hide their pain. This project supports healing through:
- Community and peer support
- Spiritual reflection
- Emotional validation
Activities
- Grief support groups in multiple languages
- One-on-one healing sessions
- Nature therapy and reflective walks
- Mindfulness tools for calming the mind
- Spiritual and cultural dialogue sessions
Goals
- Provide culturally sensitive grief support
- Break the silence around emotional pain
- Build bridges between immigrant and Finnish communities through healing
- Help families recover emotional balance
